Combating food waste

Fighting food waste in the business district seems, at first glance, to be a major challenge. With its 180,000 employees and its many catering outlets, both corporate and open to the general public, the stakes are colossal. On the scale of Paris La Défense, it is estimated that 6 to 9 tons of food that can still be consumed are wasted every day. By way of comparison, it is estimated that 10 million tonnes of food are thrown away each year in France, including 1.5 million tonnes in collective and commercial catering.

The social, economic and environmental consequences of our behaviour are now well known, and a growing number of French people would like to see things change. Better still, more than 70% of you would like to take action on your own, as our latest survey shows.

Faced with these findings, Paris La Défense is stepping up its action in the neighbourhood to make employees aware of this daily mess, but not only that! The establishment federates a community of committed players and companies, and is mobilising new members (restaurant owners, companies, managers, etc.) while promoting the good practices in this area listed in a tried and tested practical guide.
