On 1 June 2023, the 4th edition of the Children without Cancer City race will take place in the heart of La Défense, organised by the association Imagine for Margo, which fights against childhood cancer.

The Imagine for Margo association, which also organises the Children without Cancer race in Saint-Cloud, launched the first edition of the Children without Cancer City race in La Défense in 2018, in order to mobilise companies and individuals in the Paris business district and the surrounding area.

This year, the participants will be mobilising for the CoBioRB programme, which came out of the Fight Kids Cancer call for projects. This programme, against retinoblastoma, will aim to identify genetic biomarkers to improve the treatment administered.

Three successful editions in 2018, 2019 and 2022

Since 2018, the three editions organised on the territory have been a success. They have brought together more than 2,500 runners and 80 companies. In all, participants and 579,000 euros were raised to finance 3 research programmes:

  • SACHA study in 2022, to ensure safe access to medicines outside clinical trials.
  • BIOMEDE IA in 2019, the first artificial intelligence programme on infiltrating brain stem gliomas, a paediatric cancer with a very poor prognosis.
  • SELUDEX in 2018, a trial

Why run?

Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children in France and Europe. 1 in 440 children develop cancer before the age of 15. Despite the progress and scientific advances of recent years, for 20% of children and adolescents with cancer, no treatment is yet available. Cancer research is mainly focused on adult cancers, as children's cancers are considered rare diseases with more than 100 different types. Very little funding is therefore allocated to paediatrics.

This is why Imagine for Margo has been mobilising since its creation in 2011 and organises the Children without Cancer solidarity races; a festive and convivial event that mobilises people around the cause and collects donations for research, thanks to a unique model:

  • Each participant undertakes to collect a minimum of 200€ (100€ for minors/students) to validate their registration, by appealing to donors.
  • 100% of the donations collected by the participants are allocated to research, to finance programmes allowing children with cancer to benefit from innovative and more effective treatments. Donations are tax deductible.

A godmother with a big heart

This year, it is the French boxer who has won the most medals in Europe and in the world, Sarah Ourahmoune, who has committed herself to Imagine for Margo to fight against childhood cancer by becoming the godmother of the race. *Being a sponsor of the Children without Cancer City race means supporting research into paediatric cancers and helping to save lives! I feel all the more concerned because I am a mother and no child should have to fight this disease!

About Imagine for Margo

Imagine for Margo - Children without Cancer was founded in 2011 by the parents of Margo, who died of a brain tumour at the age of 14. For over 10 years, Imagine for Margo has been mobilising, raising awareness and collecting donations to accelerate research into children's cancer. It has raised more than 17 million euros to finance 42 cutting-edge research programmes, enabling more than 3,000 children to benefit from innovative and personalised treatments in Europe. In parallel, the association accompanies and supports more than 400 families.

See you on 1 June 2023!

Runners, donors, volunteers and researchers will all be present with the same goal: to beat childhood cancer!
