Can't wait to see the French team, including Gaël Fickou, captain of Racing 92, take on the New Zealanders, the Irish and the Italians in the first matches of the 2023 Rugby World Cup? Can't wait to find out which team will be crowned world champions? To keep you waiting, come and discover the coveted trophy that the winners will take home at the end of the final!
On Friday 16 June 2023, the Webb Ellis Cup will be visiting Paris La Défense, rugby territory, on its tour of France. The tour is being organised by the Defender brand, a major partner of the World Cup. From 9am to 6.30pm, visitors will be able to see the Trophy Car, a hybrid electric Defender modified by a special division of Jaguar Land Rover.
The trophy has been awarded to World Cup winners since 1987, when the competition was first held. It is modelled on an early 20th century cup, itself inspired by a cup created by a Frenchman in the late 18th century. The cup, made of gold-plated silver, has two handles featuring the head of a nymph on one side and that of a satyr on the other. The words "International Rugby Football Board" and "The Webb Ellis Cup" are engraved on the front of the cup.
