Il était une place: exhibition on the history of the Place de La Défense

You may have already sensed that culture is in the DNA of Paris La Défense, and is found in many of the projects carried out by its public establishment. Open-air museum, virtual tours of emblematic works of art, temporary exhibitions... Paris La Défense places culture at the heart of its actions, which is also reflected in its communications!
And this includes the construction site hoardings, which are the perfect medium for you to discover or rediscover the history of the district while sharing the wealth of our archives.
This time, we tell you about the history of La Place de La Défense, currently undergoing a metamorphosis!

Il était une place, an exhibition "in place" until the end of June!

If you fancy a cultural break in the sunshine, we've got just the thing for you with the exhibition on our Place de La Défense site hoardings.
As you wander from one panel to another, you will learn all about the history of the square through a dynamic and colourful display.

The little story, or rather the big one, is enriched with a wealth of information illustrated with documents from the local archives.

During the walk, you will learn more about :

• the vocation of this nerve centre: as much a village square as an emblematic part of the town of the future, a place of transit or a meeting point for sharing good times and events;
• its evolution over the years: from its design to its progressive transformation, following the different phases of development of the district;
• the setting it represents for works by world-renowned artists.
  Quite a programme!

Practical information

The exhibition is located on the palisades of the construction site in place of the old lawn that will be redeveloped as part of the urban project.

A committed and visible metamorphosis

We announced it to you a few months ago and in the spring Bigger magazine, the Place de La Défense construction site has begun! And if you are one of those who continue to walk around the district, the work being carried out could not have escaped you!

The transformation, which began last March, is not anecdotal. It is indeed a profound metamorphosis, scheduled for completion in spring 2023. It will take two years to complete this ambitious and multifaceted project, the aim being to offer you more modern public spaces and better urban comfort.
