More than 1,200 Velib' parking spaces at Paris La Défense by 2025 !

Vélib' station

By summer 2025, more than 1,200 Velib' parking spaces will be deployed in Paris La Défense. The area will be home to some thirty stations to meet the mobility needs of its users, while offering a practical, economical and environmentally-friendly alternative to the car and public transport.

Every day, thousands of people pass through Paris La Défense, making the district one of the busiest in the Greater Paris region. To meet the needs of its users (180,000 employees, 70,000 students, 50,000 residents and tens of thousands of tourists), Europe's No. 1 business district is to welcome some 30 Vélib' stations.

Paris 2024 Games : a giant Vélib' station at La Défense !

The swimming events and waterpolo finals of the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held at the Paris La Défense Arena, transformed into an Olympic pool. To facilitate access to the venue, a giant ephemeral Vélib' station will be installed in the heart of the business district for the duration of the Games. The station, financed by the Metropole du Grand Paris, will accommodate 200 bicycles on the Place Carpeaux (near the Cnit and Caesar's Thumb sculpture). Opening dates and times will be announced shortly.

Sustainable mobility at the heart of Paris La Défense

This new mobility solution will meet a growing demand, and is in line with the work undertaken by Paris La Défense to promote sustainable mobility. The public establishment encourages all types of solutions, notably as part of its "raison d'être", adopted in 2021, which sets the goal of halving territorial greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. To achieve this, more than 6 km of bike lanes, 2,000 spaces on bike racks and 600 secure parking spaces in the district's parking lots have been deployed since 2019.

This alternative will facilitate mobility for employees, residents and visitors, while easing congestion on the transport network and reducing road congestion. Promoting the use of bicycles in urban environments will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and, at the same time, improve the quality of life for users of Paris La Défense.

Vélib' Métropole continues to expand

In September 2023, Vélib' Métropole launched Vélib' Pro, an offer enabling employers to pay the full cost of their employees' Vélib' shared mobility expenses. The offer encourages the use of self-service bicycles during the day for business trips, and is a real asset, especially in a business district such as Paris La Défense.

For Vélib' Métropole, the inclusion of this territory is an important step in the development of the service, thanks in particular to the support of the Métropole du Grand Paris, which recently decided to finance 100 additional stations.

The world's largest shared bike service now has 1,471 stations, including 461 outside Paris, and more than 18,000 bikes, 40% of which are electrically assisted. With 73 member communes and a network covering more than 470 km², Vélib' will also be expanding to Créteil, Garches and La Courneuve in 2024.
