Development and biodiversity at the heart of the project

The challenges :

  • Accessibility for all: pedestrians, people with reduced mobility
  • The creation of a denser plant palette, integrating new varieties and responding to urban planning and biodiversity issues
  • The installation of new uses with playgrounds, walking areas and new furniture

The reunification of existing green spaces into a single park

The park borders the Boieldieu district, extends to the Tour Défense 2000, passing through Rue Louis Pouey and continues to Square Turpin. The connection of these groups of gardens within a park protected from the main flows is the essential challenge for these spaces, which are currently fragmented and not very accessible to people with reduced mobility.

This project also contributes to the reintroduction of biodiversity in the Rose de Cherbourg sector.

The park will be a living place accessible to all with a -5% slope. It will facilitate pedestrian connections with the neighbouring districts and will allow residents to get from one point to another in an easier and more intuitive way.

Focus on the pathways

One of the objectives of the development of the Parc de La Rose de Cherbourg is to reduce the amount of road surface. This will make room for pathways compatible with people with reduced mobility and will allow for new green spaces.

  • The old exit ramp from the ring road has been demolished
  • 4 parking spaces have been removed from the service road to the Résidence de la Défense
  • The accesses to the Boieldieu car park will be revised to ensure a better separation of pedestrian/vehicle spaces and to save space for vegetation
  • Pedestrians will be able to use the road alongside the Résidence de La Défense and take advantage of a shared roadway where soft mobility will have priority

Significant plant diversity in the park

The park will offer rich and diverse vegetation (flowers, textures, smells).

Considerable thought has been given to retaining as many trees as possible in the project (those whose phytosanitary condition allows it) as well as the planted mounds. In fact, one of the main thrusts of the Rose de Cherbourg project is to perpetuate and increase the amount of vegetation in the entire sector, in particular by planting more than 300 trees on site. Several types of planting have been imagined, from the most horticultural (in the foreground) to the most extensive. The diversity of plant varieties is therefore considerable. The objective is to recreate a tiered system of different plant strata that did not exist before and to diversify the environments. The paths are made of stabilised soil and aim to reduce the amount of waterproofing (soil or substrate that cannot be easily penetrated by roots or water). The rainwater from these paths is mainly directed towards the planted areas.

Facets of the project

  • Bringing the slopes up to standard (-5%) in order to facilitate movement for all in the park (people with reduced mobility, pushchairs)
  • Lighting of the paths
  • Strengthening the plant palette with more variety while preserving the environment
  • New uses and furniture

Playgrounds for all age groups!

  • A playground near the Expodref Residence: located in a wooded area, low wooden games will enliven the area.
  • A 'accrobranche' type play area (games of skill and balance) is installed on the side of Turpin Square, in which the apparatus follow one another and lead to the final slide (urban games delimited by fences, safe from 5 and 6 years old)
  • Another play area in the Turpin Square, near the Rue Lavoisier: spring games from 3 years old

The park in figures

  • More than 300 trees preserved
  • 75 trees planted
  • 1.4 hectares of planted walking areas
