A 700-metre-long planted promenade along the railroad tracks, with a view over La Défense, the Jardin des Bels Ebats will welcome pedestrians and cyclists in a tree-lined, planted environment.

The Jardin des Bels Ebats, formerly known as Le Balcon, is laid out in continuity with the Jardin des Rails promenade (same flooring, common species), becoming increasingly wooded and planted as it approaches the Jardin de la Gare. Steps provide seating along the way.

The upper section is organized around 3 areas:

  • A promenade area to accommodate soft mobility and uses related to future real estate lots,
  • A space of planted areas, alternating strips and tree alcoves,
  • A terraced area where you can settle down and relax: the stepped edge invites you to take a break between two planted backdrops.
  • Trees form alignments (hazelnut, maple, cherry). Plants are used to cut the wind and create shade.

An ecological corridor

The lower part of the Jardin des Bels Ebats des Groues is not accessible to the public, and is designed to create a biodiversity area, an ecological corridor along the railway line.

This part of the garden features a planted valley that collects rainwater from the public space, and a gabion wall (a dry-stone environment) that is ideal for species such as wall lizards, wagtails, chickadees, sparrows, pipistrelles and odonates. Numerous bird nesting boxes will be installed, and the wall will be planted with vegetation.

Key figures

  • Height of the high wall varies between 4.30 and 6.10 metres,
  • 6 sections built by Paris La Défense, 3 sections built by third-party contractors (Eole, SGP, Telamon and Bricqueville),
  • High wall parallel to low wall, with a constant valley width of 3.9 meters,
  • The width of the upper walkway varies between 7 and 12 meters (excluding steps and lower walkway).
