On the occasion of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the torch relay will stop at Paris La Défense on July 24, 2024, after crossing the Hauts-de-Seine region. Georges Siffredi, President of the département, will light the Olympic cauldron under La Grande Arche de La Défense, prior to the celebration of this historic day!

On April 16, 2024, the traditional ceremony in the sanctuary of Olympia in Greece took place and launched the Olympic torch relay. After arriving in France on May 8, the flame will cross the country, carried by athletes and ambassadors appointed a few weeks ago. After passing through more than fifteen communes in the Hauts-de-Seine region, the last torchbearer will arrive in Paris La Défense on July 24, 2024. The President of the Département will be responsible for lighting the Olympic cauldron. Paris La Défense will celebrate this symbolic event with an evening of festivities on the Parvis de La Défense.

Celebrating a historic event!

On July 24, 2024, the arrival of the Olympic flame under La Grande Arche will bring the whole area to life, in an electric atmosphere just before the official launch of the Paris 2024 Games. This historic event will be celebrated at a free party starting at 6pm, organized by the Hauts-de-Seine department, with a concert at 9pm at Garden Parvis.

Before ending its journey under La Grande Arche, the flame will cross the region in Nanterre and Puteaux. The "parcours des champions", an armed forces challenge, will be set up by the Délégation militaire départementale in the commune of Nanterre, while a hurdle of honor will be organized in the Parc André Malraux with children from the département's solidarity schemes.

In addition to a celebratory village set up at the Gabriel Péri stadium, a number of events will be organized around the torch's route through the region, and Puteaux's sports clubs will be organizing a parade.

The Olympic flame will reach the cauldron to the rhythm of music played by student associations from the Pôle Léonard de Vinci, after passing in front of Paris La Défense Arena, the Olympic and Paralympic venue for the Games.

The Olympic and Paralympic Torch Relay passes through the Hauts-de-Seine region

The people of the Hauts-de-Seine region are in for a thrilling time during this historic event, as 7 torch relays pass through the region. In all, the flame will pass through 19 communes in the Hauts-de-Seine region: Sceaux, Châtenay-Malabry, Le Plessis-Robinson, Clamart, Marnes-la-Coquette, Vaucresson, Sèvres, Meudon, Boulogne-Billancourt, Issy-les-Moulineaux, Rueil-Malmaison, Gennevilliers, Asnières-sur-Seine, Courbevoie, La Garenne-Colombes, Colombes, Suresnes, Nanterre and Puteaux, before finishing under the Grande Arche at La Défense. It will then return to Seine-Saint-Denis, before the opening ceremony on July 26, 2024.

The Hauts-de-Seine département will also host the crossing of the Paralympic flame, on August 27, 2024, in Saint-Cloud and then Vaucresson. This event is part of the département's commitment to raising awareness of disability, as part of its NOHa program. 4,000 students will discover parasport and attend the Paralympic Swimming Games organized at Paris La Défense Arena, in September 2024.
